Drivers in State College, Port Matilda and, Lewistown are getting more discerning and demanding every day. That significantly narrows down the field and among the class-leaders is the Chevrolet Silverado. This full-size pickup comes in so many options it’s dizzying and offers performance to match. It delivers strong hauling and towing combined with fast acceleration and superb handling, supreme comfort and ideal customization.
The Chevy Silverado also has an array of options and trim levels for supreme customization. It comes in seven trim levels: WT, LS, LT, Custom, LTZ, High Country and Z71. For more customization, they further split up among two bed lengths—six and eight feet, respectively—and three styles of cab: two-door regular, four-door extended, and crew cab styles. Some trim levels are only available in certain cab configurations.
The base WT features include xenon headlights and daytime LED running lights, bed lighting, tinted windows, cruise control, power locks, split bench front seat, a 4.2-inch color display with driver information display, USB and auxiliary audio ports, with adjustable lumbar support and upgraded cloth upholstery as an option.
Depending on which cab configuration you choose you might also get folding rear seats, power windows, and four or enhanced six-speaker audio. Optionally, you can add on the MyLink infotainment interface with a seven-inch touchscreen, a WiFi hotspot, smartphone app integration, Bluetooth, and voice commands.
The 2017 Chevy Silverado features a selection of new technology features from chrome bumpers to heated powered mirrors, remote entry, satellite radio, fog lights, an auto-dim rearview mirrors, heated seats, a security system, navigation, driver memory settings, and more. You can even add safety features like a rearview camera, a lane departure warning and intervention, forward collision warning, emergency braking, parking sensors, and much more.
The standard engine for the Silverado is a 285-horsepower V6 which delivers a combined EPA-estimated 20 mpg. There are, however, a number of upgrade choices including: a 5.3L, 355-hp V8 which delivers 19 mpg combined; and a 6.2L V8 putting out 420 hp at 17 mpg. This mileage is estimated and, of course, varies based on transmission and drivetrain. Still, 4WD is optional at all levels and towing capacity tops out from 7,600 to 12,500 lb, depending on configuration.
Safety-wise, the new Silverado scored a perfect five-star rating from the federal government, and the top Good rating for moderate-overlap front-impact, roof strength, and side-impact tests from the IIHS.
