Read on to learn more about what you can expect to find when you take the wheel of the Ford Edge.
2018 Ford Edge Powertrain
Drivers in the Ford Edge get their pick of three engines. The standard engine is a 2.0L EcoBoost® I-4 that generates 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. This engine maximizes fuel efficiency by using Auto Start-Stop Technology to power off the engine during extended stops, and power back up after hitting the accelerator.
If you want a bit more power, the available 3.5L V6 engine is a good choice. It generates 280 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. For a sportier driving experience, consider the 2.7L EcoBoost® V6 engine that generates 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque.
All engines are paired with a 6-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission that provides smooth and efficient shifting, while the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters give you control over your driving experience when operating in a limited manual mode.
Road Trip-Ready Infotainment Systems
When you head out on the open road in the Ford Edge, you’ll have several ways to stay connected, informed, and entertained behind the wheel.
The Edge comes standard with the SYNC® Voice Recognition Communications and Entertainment System with a 4.2-inch color screen. This system allows you to wirelessly connect Bluetooth®-enabled devices and use voice commands for hands-free access to music streaming, phone calls, and text messages.
It also includes SYNC® AppLink™ that gives you voice control of some of your favorite apps, like Spotify® and Pandora®. For full smartphone connectivity, upgrade to the available SYNC® 3 system, which comes with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ and allows you to use Siri® or Google™ Assistant to interact with your phone.
Ford Edge Driver-Assist Features
As you take the wheel of the 2018 Edge, you’ll have the comfort of knowing that this SUV comes with several driver-assist features that help you stay informed about your surroundings.
Available Adaptive Cruise Control, for example, allows you to set a preferred speed and following distance, and automatically adjusts your cruising speed when approaching a stopped or slower-moving vehicle up ahead.
During long drives, you can also use the available Lane-Keeping System to keep you in line. This system senses when you drift from your intended lane of travel and applies steering wheel torque to get you back on track while issuing an alert via steering wheel vibrations.
If it starts to rain on your parade, available Rain-Sensing Windshield Wipers automatically turn on when they sense precipitation on the windshield and autonomously adjust to the level of rain or snow-fall. This means you can focus more on driving and less on fiddling with wiper speed.
