To help you decide which pickup is right for you, we’ve put together this guide to the 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD MPG. You’ll also learn more about the power that comes with its efficiency.

Engine Options

2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD EnginesThe 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD can be equipped with one of two engines. Plus, each Silverado 2500HD is outfitted with a 36-gallon fuel tank to help you make the most of each fill up.

The first engine is the standard Vortec 6.0L V8. It produces up to 360 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. Plus, it’s partnered up with a heavy-duty 6-speed automatic transmission, which harnesses all that power in a fuel-efficient manner.

Your next option will give you the advanced efficiency of diesel. The Duramax® 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 engine cranks out up to 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. On top of that, it’s coupled with an advanced 6-speed Alison® automatic transmission. It’s specially designed to maximize the powerful and efficient performance of this engine.

What Makes Diesel More Efficient

You know that you’ll probably get more miles per gallon with a diesel engine under the hood of your 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD, and we’re going to explain why.

It all starts with the fuel itself. Diesel is 15 percent more dense than traditional gasoline. On a molecular level, it’s comprised of more long-chain hydrocarbons. In layman’s terms, it has a lot more energy than gasoline. Burning this richer fuel means the engine must use a higher compression ratio. Generally, compression ratios in a diesel engine can start at 12 and can reach 16-to-one or more!

What does all this mean for your MPG rating? During the combustion process, the cylinders in the engine are superheated. So, when the fuel is injected into the combustion chambers it instantly ignites, which is why these engines can operate without spark plugs. This makes it much simpler to extract power from the fuel itself, giving you more strength and better fuel economy.

Efficient Power

2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD PowerThe 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD gives you awesome towing power with either engine. The standard 6.0L V8 has a maximum towing capacity of 14,400 pounds. The available 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 has even more power, offering a maximum towing capacity of 15,400 pounds.

Plus, with available features like Tow/Haul Mode and the trailer brake controller, you’ll be more confident behind the wheel, regardless of what you’re hauling. On top of that, the standard rear vision camera will help when you’re backing up, and when you’re hitching up your favorite trailer.

For all the cargo that doesn’t require a trailer, the Silverado 2500HD has a maximum payload of 3,233 pounds. It’ll be easier to load everything up, too! The available spray-on bedliner adds a thick, water-tight seal to the bed of your truck. Plus, the available cargo tie-downs will make it easier to keep everything secure.
